Out of all the social networks out there, I think I like LinkedIn the best. LinkedIn is for professionals. In fact, there is no reason to be on LinkedIn if you're not a professional or looking for professional contacts. LinkedIn is all about professionals doing business within their network and developing new networks and new contacts and possibly getting new jobs and new business.
LinkedIn is an excellent medium in which small businesses can make professional contacts and generate business. There are groups on LinkedIn of which you could take immediate advantage. I would love for my small business finance readers link to my profile and take advantage of my contacts!

Nicely written! LinkedIn will soon become the most effective way of building your professional career and creating a personal brand. However, one will have to invest time in learning the effectiveness of this site and ways to use it properly.
By the way, I am new to LinkedIn too and have found this resource quite useful. It is a new book called “How to REALLY use LinkedIn” by networking expert Jan Vermeiren. Check it out, you can find a free lite version at http://www.how-to-really-use-linkedin.com/
This is great information. Thanks for posting!
LinkedIn tip for you – put common misspellings of your name, like Rosemarie, into the Summary field of your profile. That way, if someone is searching for you with that spelling, they still find you. This is actually one of the “The Missing LinkedIn Tips” from my new blog at

where I actually have a video that shows how to do it.
