Small Businesses Should get their Share of Government Contracts

Wednesday July 1, 2009

According to current federal government procurement regulations, small businesses should get 23% of all government contracts. That means small businesses should be doing business for entities like the U.S. Army and the Department of Homeland Security, along with many more. However, large businesses, sometimes hiding behind small subsidiaries grab those lucrative contracts away from small businesses.

If small businesses could participate fairly in the government contracts market, it could be very profitable for them. In May, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) introduced legislation to make the contracting process more fair for small business. It would bolster federal contracts to small businesses.

Call your Representatives and Senators and help get this bill passed! It will make the government contracting process more fair for small businesses and maybe you can land one of those lucrative government contracts.
