National Federation of Small Business Reacts to House Passage of Health Care Bill
On Saturday, November 7, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a historic piece of legislation when it passed the House version of the health care reform legislation. Not everyone likes the bill and it's likely to be changed a great deal when it goes to the Senate, but nevertheless, just the fact that health care reform is on its way is historic in the U.S. Almost every President since Teddy Roosevelt has been trying to reform our health care system with no luck, until now.
The National Federation of Small Business reacted strongly to the passage of the health care bill. This organization is strongly opposed to the house version of health care reform. It contends that, if the bill stands as it is, it will make things worse for small business due to the mandates to provide employee health care and what it calls "atrocious new taxes." Please note there is an insurance exchange provided for in the House version of the bill.
The NFSB wants national benefit plans to be purchased across state lines, enacting responsible insurance market reforms, and increasing competition in small group and private markets through allowing an exchange.
