The everchanging world of the cell phone market is still....well....everchanging! The latest, according to Connected World Magazine is a merger between T-Mobile and MetroPCS. The new company will keep the T-Mobile name.
I recently wrote a couple of articles on types of mergers and one of the articles was on horizontal and vertical mergers. As I've been reading about the T-Mobile merger, it first sounded like a horizontal merger, but then I wondered if it wasn't a little of both. It seemed to have characteristics of both a horizontal and a vertical merger. The new merger seems to impact the M2M market (machine to machine) and will help T-Mobile maintain stronger relationships in the 2G market. Even though everyone seems to be moving to 4G, there is still a healthy market for 2G data.
Do you think this is a horizontal or vertical merger? I'm interested in your comments!
