Overhead can be defined as business expenses not directly related to one particular product produced by a business firm. It is the cost of labor, equipment, and materials necessary to conduct the business of the firm that are not necessarily related to one particular product. Examples are insurance, rent, and utilities.

Overhead is a tax-deductible expense for a business firm.
