What I Did
Using Cision, a public relations database, keeps me on top of all editorial opportunities and contact changes. It saves me untold hours over trying to get this work done manually.
How I Did It?
I jumped right in because I have used similar software before and understood the basic concepts. If you are familiar with past products such as MediaMap or Bacon's, you won't have much trouble accustoming yourself to the idiosyncrasies of Cision.
Lessons Learned
- Compare the various solutions out there, since the quality of the available data varies;
- Get a "test drive" or a try-before-you-buy period that allows you to kick the tires and see how efficient & user-friendly the product is;
- Negotiate the lowest price you can, as all these packages are sold as one-year licenses.
