Name of your Business Finance Blog

Whitewater Cash Flow

What do you write about in your blog?

Primarily about small business cash flow: how to understand, manage and project it. I will also be branching out some into related issues around managing risk, pricing, etc.

Why did you start your blog?

Class VI will be offering tools to help small businesses understand and manage risk, starting with cash flow issues. But before any tool can be really useful, and whether entrepreneurs ever use one of ours or not, it's important that they understand something about cash flow issues in general and the specific ways that operational decisions in their own businesses impact their cash flow. This blog is a place where we can engage in conversation with small business owners and share insights, ways of thinking about the problem, ideas for solutions, free tools (like our Cash Flow Illustrator: http://www.c6sw.com/applications/illustrator), and so on.

I'm approaching the problem both as an entrepreneur who has struggled with the issues and as someone working to build solutions that make it easier for others to do it.

Advice

  • The key challenge is writing regularly. One technique that I've used is to commit to finishing a post once I start, even if it takes several hours. I may leave it overnight for a final edit with fresh eyes, but I've learned not to leave things half-finished since they have a tendency to stay that way.
  • I'm using Acquia Drupal since it needs to support a full website with both content and applications. I would not recommend this for anyone non-technical.
